Best Automatic Document Feed Scanner Reviews 2020

1. Brother Wireless High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner

Brother Wireless High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner, ADS-2700W, Touchscreen LCD, Duplex Scanning
  • Speed– 35 pages per minute
  • Capacity– 5000 daily scans
  • Weight– 5.8 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited

This one is the most popular choice for automatic document feed scanners for their accuracy in scanning, myriad options of connectivity, low cost and speed. The machine is one of the most accurate irrespective of the price range, therefore it forms our first choice.

This has a small footprint with a measurement of  9.8 by 12.1 by 10.2 inches in height, width and depth. Not only is it compact, but it is also lightweight at 5.8 pounds. One needs to keep in mind that this is the folded footprint. Because this is an automatic document feed scanner, when all the trays are extended from the top, rear and front, the footprint almost doubles. Despite that, this is a device that can easily be accommodated on a corner of your desk.

The ADF (automatic document feed) for this has a capacity of 50 sheets, which as compared to other models in this range is less, even then this feature-rich machine doesn’t make you miss it. With various connectivity options, this machine works well with Ethernet, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Near Field Communication (NFC), wireless and cloud printing and mobile connectivity. The addition of the peer-to-peer protocol makes it the most comprehensively connectible scanner.

The device is controlled by a 3.7-inch control panel, which is an LCD touchscreen. It has buttons which perform the home, back and other preset functions. The LCD controls the apps that help the workflow performance of this device. Using the Brothers Solution Interface (BSI), the open-source resources can be customized to meet your suitable needs. As this device is a business device, there are a lot of security features and security protocols.

It is extremely slow to set up to be honest. The drivers take a lot of time to install. Otherwise it is a fairly simple and uncomplicated procedural setup. This hardware device comes bundled with some very good software. PaperPort, FineReader, AbbyTransformer Plus amongst others. The primary setup gives options for home or advanced user controls.

As told earlier, this is one fast scanner. The speed of which matches or even exceeds some of the most expensive models tested by us. It scans 50 pages per minute simplex and 100 pages per minute duplex, where the duplexing is inline. It is to be noted that the scanned images being converted to files are the real speed deal.

The speed of papers passing through the machine isn’t that important. This is one printer which walks it talks. The lag time, which is, the time between the last printout to that of the saving of the file actually gives the same speed results of 50 pages per minute.

OCR or Optical Character Recognition, which converts scanned texts to editable texts is probably as important or slightly more important than the speed. It uses a default resolution of 200 dots per inch (dpi)  and is good till medium font size. The advanced resolution of 300 dpi, makes it good till low font sizes. This being said, the scan quality is definitely above average.

All being discussed, at the given price tag, this is by far one of the fastest devices. This device is also equipped with a plethora of software from Brother which makes life very easy. It is a good budget buy.

  • The speed of printing is fastest
  • Exhaustible Connectivity options
  • Software support is robust
  • Lacks business card management software.

2. Canon ImageFORMULA R40 Office Document Scanner For PC and Mac, Color Duplex Scanning

Canon ImageFORMULA R40 Office Document Scanner For PC and Mac, Color Duplex Scanning, Easy Setup For Office Or Home Use, Includes Scanning Software
  • Speed– 40 scans per minute simplex and 80 scans per minute, duplex
  • Capacity– 4000 daily scans
  • Weight– 6.2 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited

This is an entry-level automatic document feed scanner, targeting the small businesses. This has a good software feature set, decent quality of scanning and relatively fast. You’d be disappointed if you are looking for something which has diverse connectivity options, otherwise, it is a good device to have when you are just starting.

At 9.6 by 11.4 by 9.9 inches, this model has a larger footprint than most models. As is the norm with such scanners, when put in use, the size or footprint increases to almost double as they incorporate the length of the open trays. The biggest disadvantage of this machine is the lack of any other connectivity option save for the USB port. You can not use it for networking support or use it wirelessly.

The control of this scanner is located in the front in the form of a mini monochrome display, assisted with buttons which help navigate. The buttons include the scroll buttons, the start and stop buttons, manual toggle feed. The profiles for scanning can be edited, configured and selected via the software given.

What is interesting is that this device can scan very small images which are 2 by 2.1 inches in size and also scan large images of 8 by 118 inches in size. The ADF tray has a capacity of 60 sheets. Not only does this machine have Canon’s trademark TWAIN drivers, it also has other iconic software like- CaptureOnTouch, Readiris, and Cardiris.

The speed of scanning is respectable given the category this device occupies. It promises 40 scans per minute simplex and 80 scans per minute, duplex. The conversion of the files to various formats like PDF, is faster thanks to the software bundled with it.

The Optical Character Recognition here is quite accurate. This is a good move ahead from the erstwhile scanners where you’d never be sure of their accuracy. This device though has an accuracy right at the top. Any font type is scanned and well legible and editable till the lowest of font sizes. This scanners scans accurately down to font size 4, which is not achieved by many other scanners.

Since this machine has a program which reads in scanned business cards called Cardiris, the scanning and documenting of business cards became easy. Though it must be noted that the ability and accuracy of scanning of these business cards largely depends on the design of these cards. Otherwise one could always try using the multiple noise filters this device has.

Even though in today’s times, most of the document scanners in this range work fine for an entry level work or small business, if you need a scanner which is highly accurate and doesn’t need multitude connectivity options, this should be your first choice.

  • The OCR accuracy
  • The software bundled with it
  • The ability to scan all sizes.
  • Low connectivity options.

3. Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-Speed Photo and Document Scanning System

Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-Speed Photo and Document Scanning System, Black
  • Weight– 8.2 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited

When all you want is a scanner that scans your photos continuously, without human intervention and doesn’t damage them, then the best automatic document feed scanner’s choice for printing images and snapshots would be Epson FastFoto FF-680W. This is a sheet-fed scanner that can digitize a large collection and selection of photographs. It is not a photo whizard alone. Despite scanning some very high-resolution images, they scan documents quite well too.

Aesthetically in looks, the Epson FastFoto-6680 scanner is shaped and designed like a normal scanner. It has a compact footprint of 6.9 by 11.7 by 6.7 inches. The automatic document feed is fed with a tray from the top which curves downwards. The tray located at the bottom holds the scanned images. This enables the footprint to be compact as compared to other automatic document feed printers. The document feed accepts photo sizes of 5 by 7, 4 by 6 and is adjustable.

The connectivity options here are USB and Wi-Fi. This being designed to be a home-use scanner, it doesn’t really need an Ethernet connectivity. The control panel is actually a vertical line of buttons that has the power button, the choice of connectivity, slow mode, scan mode, double-feed detection. The scan button is also the button that can be used to access the FastFoto software.

FastFoto Software is a software whereby images that have been scanned are saved in subfolders in the photo directory. These subfolders can be on the basis of date scanned or customized by adding descriptive texts. The settings let you select the resolution you desire, whether 300 dpi or 600 dpi. There is also a feature that enhances the scan, so low-quality images get a facelift. The software also lets one edit the images.

The speed is fast. At 300 dpi the scans take nearly one second, that makes it 60 scans per second. Though as we discussed earlier the speed at which a photo goes in and comes out isn’t the accurate speed, the time taken to save the images and the lag between the last image scanned and saved is important. Therefore, this printer rates slower. Therefore it nearly takes 1 minute 51 seconds to save the 60 images scanned in one minute.

The USP of this is that it can scan documents also decently well. You need to start the scan with Epson ScanSmart utility. It has good Optical Character Recognition or OCR. If you scan to a font size of 8, it is crisp and legible. It is only when you try and scan at lower font sizes will there be variations in quality.

If you are looking for an extremely high standard image scanner which can also scan documents when needed, don’t mind a slow speed this is the device for you.

  • Fabulous image scanning
  • Epson FastFoto software support
  • Credible document scanner
  • Quite slow

4. Xerox XD-COMBO Duplex Combo Flatbed Document Scanner

Xerox XD-COMBO Duplex Combo Flatbed Document Scanner for PC and Mac, Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)
  • Speed– 25 pages per minute simplex, 50 images per minute duplex
  • Capacity– 1500 scans paper day.
  • Weight-5.95 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year

If you believe that you would be in need of both, a flatbed scanner and a sheet-fed scanner, then instead of investing in two scanners, Xerox XD Combo Duplex is the entry-level two in one scanner you must consider while buying an automatic document feed scanner. For those organizations who need flexibility in scanning various kinds of documents, i.e a travel agent or a doctor, this is the best automatic document feed scanner.

This best of both worlds device helps you digitize the photographs and fragile documents which wouldn’t last a trip through the sheetfed scanner. The flatbed scanner can not be an automatic document feed, therefore to scan stacks of documents or images, a sheetfed scanner is preferable. At 5.5 by 15.8 by 13 inches, it may seem longer than most, but then this doesn’t open up to take up more space.

This model has a 35-page single-pass auto-duplexing ADF. The auto-duplexing allows a paper to be scanned on its both sides without manual intervention. Any good automatic document feed scanner needs to be duplexing. The control panel design is frugal. It doesn’t want to confuse the user with too much.

These devices offer on point features, hence their basic control panel. It has a small non-touch LCD which shows the functions namely- Up, Down, Simplex or Duplex scan. All other functions of this device are from resolution, file type and destination amongst others are controlled by the Visioneer One Touch scanner interface.

The design is such that as the lid is lifted and the platen accessed, the ADF is bypassed. This is beneficial for tough scanning jogs of magazines, laminated documents, business cards and so on. The speed and accuracy of scan though is the most important factor to choose an automatic document feed scanner.

This is a utility and applications and software rich device. Powered by Xerox, manufactured by Visioneer, the scanned texts and their images are well nuanced and easily converted into editable format, with being saved as useful file types. The software doesn’t just enable you to scan and save the photos in PDF or DocX format but enables you to save it in multiple file formats.

The application and software list is nearly exhaustive with having everything from TWAIN to WIA (Windows Image Acquisition.) We’d need a separate review to talk about their in depth features.

The speed of scanning is decent for an entry level printer. The speed is 28 images per minute for simplex and 56 pages per minute for duplex. If you take the passing of the images only and not the time lag( discussed earlier.)

While taking in the time to save and convert the scanned image into document, it clocked similar to the claimed time of 25 images per minute and 50 images per minute, making the speed very decent overall.

A complete error-free image is scanned and saved down to the font size of 8 points. For font sizes beyond that, the accuracy varied as per the font type. The accuracy of business card scanning was highly proportionate to the design and quality of the business cards. This is a dependable device which performs well for someone who is just starting out.

  • Affordable device
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Combo of both flatbed and sheet fed
  • Limited connectivity options.

5. Doxie Q – Wireless Rechargeable Document Scanner

Doxie Q - Wireless Rechargeable Document Scanner with Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)
  • Speed– 8 images per minute
  • Capacity– 1000
  • Weight– 1.81 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year

This automatic document feed scanner reminds me of those sleepy towns where work happens at a leisurely speed, but the work that happens is high-quality. It is an idyllic little world. This is an idyllic little scanner, which takes time to do a scan but has a USP that it doesn’t need to be connected to a computer to be able to scan.

This is a robust device which has been specifically, with great success, been designed for portability. The measurement 1.6 by 11.5 by 3.1 inches makes it quite compact and easy to carry. It has an 8 sheet holder tray which is capable of ADF feed. The scanner is a singlex scanner, which means that scanning of two sides of a page has to be performed manually.

The Doxie Q model comes with a large capacity of internal flash memory. Which at 8 GB is one of the highest we have seen in this range of scanners. The scanned images can only be viewed with the help of a computing device, therefore, it is always advisable to take advantage of the memory and do multiple scans of a document if you are using the scanner portably. This device is powered by a easily replaceable rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, which can power nearly a 1000 scans with every charge.

The control of this device is minimalistic. It has a small monochrome display to see the function you are selecting. It has three buttons- scan, format and dpi. There are two dots which show how it is connected. The scanner is able to connect to computing devices wirelessly or through the Micro-USB port. Interestingly as an accessory, this scanner ships with a “worldwide USB power adaptor set,” a set of complete USB cables adaptive to various countries’ power supplies.

The setup though is fairly a walk in the park, it requires a software. The lack of its software could literally rain down on you. You need to go to the site. So we’d not call it an easily-setup device.

The beauty of this device though is the OCR- Optical Character Recognition of the scanner. This is one of the most accurate that we have seen, therefore the scope of errors is quite low when portably scanning.

It is capable of scanning fonts to the point of 6 font size, which is the best we have seen in a portable scanner. The softwares that accompanies this device to be able to support the brilliant OCR is somewhat stuck in the idylls of the past.

The files can be saved in 5 file formats. This is not a device for businesses which need to do a load of tasks. This is designed to do a small workload of tasks for the home. The pages per minute speed is nearly 8.8 pages per minute. If you take in factor the lag time, this machine slows down a bit further at 6.5 scans per minute.

All said, this is a slow device, with some antiquated software, a singlex scanner, but it is also a solidly built, reliable scanner, with high accuracy, a large battery which powers 1000 scans and also a large memory.

  • Large memory of 8 GB
  • Longer battery life
  • High OCR accuracy
  • Extremely slow scanner.

6. Epson WorkForce ES-400 Color Duplex Document Scanner for PC and Mac, Auto Document Feed

Epson WorkForce ES-400 Color Duplex Document Scanner for PC and Mac, Auto Document Feeder (ADF)
  • Speed– 35 pages per minute (simplex) 70 pages per minute (duplex)
  • Weight– 8.1 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year warranty

A compact, inexpensive scanner, which is functional for home use. The speed is great for this range of scanners. The OCR performance though is not very impressive. So in case you need functional scans and can do with something fast and affordable, the automatic document feed scanner might just be a good bet.

As compared to other scanners, this sheetfed scanner measuring at 6.9 by 11.6 by 6.6 inches is lightweight enough at 8.1 pounds. This can easily be accommodated at any part of the workspace. The footprint is small. The depth increases by a foot when you extend the input tray on the top and the output tray in the front. It has a 50 sheet tray for automatic document feed, which is higher than average.

The speed of this device is 35 pages per minute for simplex scanning and 70 pages per minute for duplex scanning. It is fast enough for offices and workgroups, yet compact enough to be a home machine.

The performance of the scan is not very impressive, but that is as compared to the others we have tested. Stand alone, the quality is pretty decent, above average so to say. Text documents as receipts etc came out really well, the colored full-page documents though had slight ifs and buts.

The file management and scan selection was slightly cumbersome and not that user-friendly. Though the basic usage was fairly easy and fuss-free. Overall if you plan to scan less than 50 documents a day, can afford slight ifs and misses, then this is a good entry-level automatic document feed scanner.

  • The speed of scanning
  • Cost-effective scans
  • Scans to PDF
  • OCR unimpressive

7. Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1500

Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1500 Color Duplex Document Scanner with Touch Screen for Mac and PC (Black Model, 2020 Release)
  • Speed– 30 pages per minute (singled) 60 pages per minute (duplex)
  • Weight– 9.58 pounds

When you are looking for newage machines that have probably the cleanest and clearest scan that we have probably seen, is decently fast and can scan a conspicuous amount of pages, then the best automatic document feed scanner is Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1500. This isn’t just your plain document scanner, this is a scanner that can digitize images pretty well too.

This black and white automatic document feed scanner is aesthetically designed to blend in the background. This iX1500 has the revolutionary ultrasonic multi-feed detector and a separation roller. This prevents any overload or jam of paper or setup of paper picking.

At a width of 9 inches, this scanner can accommodate paper sizes larger than standard A4 size. This scanner can also scan credit cards, debit cards, passports.

The control panel is a 4.3-inch touch color screen. This color screen is not just any color screen, it is a screen where you can create customized shortcut options. The interface is extremely user friendly with color-coded shortcuts.

The ScanSnap management software is a genius software, even though not much has been spoken about it. File management, tweaking the settings, the scan is smart, can upload to cloud storage. The quibbles arise when you try to change the path name of the file destination. It becomes slightly wonky there.

The scan quality is par excellence. The color graphics are highly precise and high definition. The colors were all true and accurate. Please note that this is a sheet-fed scanner, so post digitization there is a possibility of changes in your original images. The OCR detection though is a good 94-95% and not an accurate 100%. That does get a little tricky when scanning complex documents.

The speed is the reason why we have fallen in love with this device. The speed of printing is an impressive 26 pages per minute. The speed is greatly increased thanks to the 80-page automatic document feeder. The connectivity options here are USB 2.0 or Wi-Fi. The resolution is 600 dpi.

This is a fast and reliable desktop scanner that scans impeccable photographs, decent texts. The only catch is that it doesn’t have TWAIN. In case you are wondering what TWAIN is, then this machine is ideal for you.

  • Photograph scan quality
  • Speed of scanning
  • Compact size
  • OCR accuracy not very high

8. Epson WorkForce ES-300WR Wireless Document Scanner

ES-300WR Wireless Color Portable Duplex Document Scanner Accounting Edition for PC and Mac, Auto Document Feeder (ADF)
  • Speed– 25 pages per minute simplex, 50 pages per minute duplex
  • Capacity– 500 scans per day
  • Weight– 2.9 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 years manufacturers

This is an automatic document feed scanner that has been designed for those who need speed and features. This is a business-oriented printer that has a document-based interface giving those who need to scan large amounts of papers and work with bookkeeping blindly rely on this.

This is a compact and portable scanner which when unextended has a measurement of 2.6 by 11.3 by 3.5 inches. This makes it extremely easy to carry around. This has a 20 sheet automatic document feeder which is an auto-duplexer. Auto-duplexing prevents any manual intervention for scanning both sides.

This device has an inbuilt rechargeable battery. The battery can be recharged from any power sources or a USB port. Like other rechargeable devices, this scanner charges faster when it is switched off. The battery charge can last for more than a few hundred scans.

The control panel is simple with 4 buttons- power, start/stop, Wi-Fi connect. The LED buttons display notifications for five statuses- ready, wi-fi on/off, error, automatic document feeding and battery.

There is also a mode selector toggle, that switches between standard documents and thick cards. The connectivity options here are USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi. The scanning can be connected to android and ios devices.

The software included with the scanner are all researched and developed and are constantly being innovated upon. The software that sets Epson apart from its competitors is the SmartScan software, whereby, this multi-utility program integrates management utility, supports software, other applications, making them all move cohesively.

ScanSmart not only edits the profiles of the workflow, configures and executes the scans, it also has an accounting software which compiles all the bookkeeping data into accounting books very easily and comfortably.

The speed of scanning of this scanner isn’t path-breaking, but neither is this machine slow by any contrast. In the portable automatic document feed scanner category, this is by far one of the fastest that we have seen. At 25 pages per minute in simplex speed and 50 pages per minute in duplex speed, tested on USB 3.0 at 300 dpi, they rated quite well. The lag time doesn’t affect the speed which is a good phenomenon.

This scanner is the most accurate scanner that we have tested so far. In fact, the most accurate automatic document feed scanner by far is Epson’s. The scanning and exporting of the accounting documents is a breeze with this.

If you are in need of a device with very high accuracy and good quality output, then your go-to the device is this.

  • High level of accuracy
  • Good speed
  • Supports USB 3.0 as well
  • No memory card support

9. Visioneer Patriot H60 Duplex Scanner with Document Feed- B06X93N48L

  • Speed-70 images per minute (singlex), 140 images per minute (duplex) at 200 dpi
  • Capacity– 10,000 daily scans
  • Weight– 4.41 pounds
  • Warranty– 3 year warranty

This is a sheetfed machine designed for those large businesses for whom everything is important, from fast and quick scanning, the accuracy of the scans, high amount of daily scans and an all-encompassing bundle of software.

If you did go through the features above, you’d be surprised to look at the capacity. It is a high workforce machine which is capable of nearly 10,000 daily scans. With a 160 sheet automatic document feed tray, this model is heavy use of office equipment.

At  9.4 by 12.5 by 26.8 inches, this is not a compact device by any chance. The large size and nature though don’t take away from its aesthetics. In black and white, this machine blends in the background.

This scanner has a monochrome LED display, which is non-touch, helps in selecting workflow profiles, function button, power button. The up and down navigation button is accompanied by buttons for selecting simplex or duplex scan and power.

The software bundle it accompanies has us so excited, that we might just end up writing a separate post on it. Not only does it have the now-standard TWAIN, ISIS, WIA drivers, it also has Visioneers OneTouch With Acuity, a robust and clutter-free user interface, Nuance PaperPort, Nuance OmniPage Ultimate which is actually an outstanding Optical Character Recognition program, Nuance Power PDF, and more. The software bundle is so comprehensive that there doesn’t seem to be any function they can’t perform. The USP is that despite it being loaded with functions, they all are cohesive.

These softwares not only make the tasks simpler, but they also improve the accuracy, edit the quality of the images. No task seems like a task, all flow together. This is not just a good scanner, this is one fast machine. At 300 dpi, connected with USB 3.0, with keeping in mind the lag time, this clocked at 68 pages per minute for simplex images and 136 pages per minute for duplex images.

This scanner has a high OCR accuracy. It can convert the documents completely accurately down to 6 point sizes of the fonts, for various font types. The images scan are also almost true to color and real like. Therefore, it is a heavy-duty scanner meant for business use.

  • The speed of scanning is fast
  • The scanning accuracy is great
  • The software bundle is comprehensive.
  • This is an expensive model

10. Brother ImageCenter ADS-2200W Wireless Document Scanner

Brother High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner, ADS-2200, Multiple Scan Destinations, Duplex Scanning
  • Capacity– 3000 daily pages
  • Weight– 5.5 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited

A fast-paced entry-level scanner, which was extremely simple to use, functional features and all the requisite software. This has one aspect which is very disappointing is the automatic document feed scanner that we reviewed. Disappointing because it gave us limited connectivity options, or rather, just one connectivity option of USB 2.0.

This is a duplex scanner that doesn’t require the pages to be reinserted to scan the other side. The 50 sheets of automatic document feed works quite efficiently. The straight-through paper path can support documents as thick as a plastic card. The control panel is non-existent apart from 4 buttons which are power on/off, scan to pc, scan to USB, and resolution selector.

At 7 by 11.8 by 8.7 inches, this is one compact machine. The feature whereby it can scan to USB drives directly is a nifty feature for those who need to scan and go a lot of times. They would rather not wait for the scan to save on a computing device and then transfer to portable storage.

Nuance PaperPort 14SE, PageManager, Presto! BizCard 6 along with TWAIN and WIA drivers are probably all the features and function sets that one can need. These programs help you to scan from anything that has a scan command.

The speed of this device is good at 35 pages per minute for simplex and 70 pages per minute for duplex scanning. If you leave out the time lag, which is the time gap between the last feed and then save, the speed came upto 43.8 pages per minute.

Powered by PaperPort the OCR is quite accurate. The scanned text has a 2-3% scope of error. The business card management was also well powered by BizCard. This though is an inexpensive machine, with the USP of scanning to a thumb drive, with good OCR and speed. It’s not great, it’s well and functional.

  • Scans to thumb drives
  • OCR performance is quite good.
  • Image to PDF scan and conversion is quick
  • No display

FAQs about Best Automatic Document Feed Scanner

1. What is an automatic document feed scanner?

When a stack of documents, papers or material to be scanned is put into the machine, where the machine automatically feeds it through, allowing the user to scan a sheaf of documents, etc without having to manually feed each and every page, is automatic document feeding.

2. What are the types of automatic document feed (ADF) scanner?

There are no types for an ADF scanner. ADF scanning is only available in sheetfed scanners and not flatbed scanners. The sheetfed scanners have an input tray where the load of sheets are put in and is gradually fed through the machine automatically. In a flatbed scanner, the scan needs to be done manually.

3. What is a dual automatic document feed (ADF) scanner or an auto-duplexing ADF?

The ability to scan two sides, that is the front and back sides of any image or document, without removing the document from the output tray and reinserting it through the input tray is called ADF with auto-duplexing. Simply put, both sides of a document will be scanned in a single pass.

4. Why should one invest in an automatic document feed (ADF) scanner?

If you need to handle or scan a conspicuous amount of paper or physical documents on a frequent basis, then this is the ideal choice for you. One could just insert a large volume of papers in the machine and walk away, the scanning process will complete itself.

5. What is OCR? How does it work?

A software or a tool, which allows a computing device to identify the text on a physical document and interpret it as data. It is like photocopy, but it allows you to edit or find a text in the scanned document like you would in a word processing unit.

Save yourself the headache of having to manually insert sheaves and sheaves of paper or images into the scanner in a quest to digitize your documents. We have given you a comprehensive list of scanners, in entry, mid and high-end range to enable you to make an informed choice.

An automatic document feed scanner that is high on accuracy is your priority or one which is fast. Whether you need one to scan images and documents or just documents.

  • CPU: 3.9 GHz Intel i3 8145U 8th generation
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage:128GB SSD, 1000GB HDD
  • Display:14.0-inch HD (1366×768)
  • Battery: 7 hours
  • Weight: 3.88 pounds

This laptop is powered by an 8th Generation Intel Core i3-8145U processor. This processor is more suitable for budget-friendly laptops that are used for applications that are prolonged but do not require a high processor speed.  Hence it works efficiently when it is being used for computing and writing.

It is also good for creating and viewing spreadsheets, documents and PowerPoint presentations. It has an Intel 620 Graphics card which works fine when the device is put to usual use. But when one uses the device for applications like gaming, which are high n performance intensity and visuals, lags and disruptions are seen.

It comes with an 8GB RAM and internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB if required. However, users are recommended to expand the device’s storage as soon as one purchases it, instead of trying to do it on their own.

In terms of OS, it is compatible with both Windows 10 Pro and Ubuntu 18.04 TLS. This way, user experience becomes versatile and smooth. Users who are accustomed to traditional laptops and computers with Windows 10 OS can use this device without any major hiccups. The device has 4 flexible modes- writing, typing, drawing and tent mode for watching movies and web series.

When one opens the lid of the device, one is greeted by a 14-inch display. The display size makes it very useful for those whose jobs involve a lot of screen- time or even those who binge-watch web series since it causes very less strain to one’s eyes. The touch display is very sensitive and functions efficiently. It responds swiftly to touches and swipes, making it user-friendly. The screen has a decent resolution, but it can be improved.

The keyboard is also easily accessible, easy to open and handle. It has a keyboard that is fairly easy to use and a touchpad, which is wide enough and packs in multiple features and gestures. However, the device does not have a USB Type- C port.

It features the convertible design in 3 modes- Tablet mode- where it can be held in one’s hand and used, Tent mode- where the monitor can be bent around the hinge in such a way it faces us and away from the keyboard, and Stand mode- where the keyboard faces down.

It weighs 4.22 lbs and the design is not sleek, but can be used without major hiccups. Slim bezels are present around the sides of the screen.  For a laptop with multitudinous features, its battery life must be improved.

Its battery lasts for 7 hours after being fully charged. This must be improved since laptops are devices that one always uses on the go, especially when one is travelling and cannot charge his/ her device often.

  • Cheap
  • 3 modes of operation available
  • User- friendly
  • Easy to use the keyboard
  • Comfortable display size
  • Does not have USB Type C port
  • Low battery life

2. HP Chromebook x360

HP Chromebook X360 14-Inch HD Touchscreen Laptop, Intel Celeron N4000, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC, Chrome (14b-ca0010nr, Ceramic White/Mineral Silver)
  • CPU: 1.1 Ghz Intel i3- 8130U 8th generation
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • Display: 14 inch (1920x 1080)
  • Battery: Up to 11 hours
  • Weight:3.7 pounds

The laptop comes with an 8th generation i3-8130U CPU. It has an 8GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be expanded. This processor is suitable for basic applications like computing, drawing up spreadsheets, creating text documents and PowerPoint presentations.

The device comes with an Intel 620 graphics card, which makes it difficult for the user to use performance-intensive and graphics-intensive applications like gaming, on this device. However, the device is powered by Chromebook OS and hence, it is very efficient in multitasking one can also open multiple tabs simultaneously and work without any noticeable lag or disruption, for a long period of time.

The laptop also boots thrice as fast as its contemporaries with Windows OS. Hence if one is looking for quick browsing, this device is an apt choice. However, the storage drive capacity could have been expanded, for its price. Chromebook OS is similar to Windows and Mac in terms of ease of use. However, the features are limited, which might be the reason behind his device’s swift booting time. Further, it is heavy and is difficult to use as a tablet, when held in one’s hands.

The display measures 14 inches, which makes it very easy on the eyes. It is vivid and vibrant, thus making it a good choice for watching videos and reading. The audio systems are also robust, sufficiently loud but not jarring. It has a headphone jack and the usual ports, with the power and volume buttons on the sides of the device. This way, it is designed like any generic tablet.

The keyboard is easy to use and pretty comfortable for typing for a prolonged duration of time. The touchpad is also highly sensitive. It responds swiftly and accurately to our touch, enhancing the user experience. However, this device does not have a fingerprint sensor.

It has an impeccably long battery life as it lasts for 11 hours after being charged fully. Further, it can also charge faster. The display panel is surrounded by bezels of moderate thickness. The hinge is strong and flexible and is made of plated chromium.

The body of the laptop is pretty sleek and is given a matte- anodized finish. This gives the laptop a sleek, premium look. Though the surfaces of the device are smooth, it can be gripped firmly and used without the user worrying about it slipping from their hands.

However, the laptop is available in only one colour. Further, the surfaces are prone to smudging. Hence, finger marks are visible on the outer surface of the device even if one has used it only for a short period of time.

  • Sleek design
  • Efficient multitasking
  • Boots fast
  • High battery life
  • Chrome performance is excellent
  • Prone to smudging
  • Expensive

3. Asus Vivobook Flip

ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 Thin and Light 2-in-1 Laptop, 14” HD Touchscreen, Intel Quad-Core Pentium N5000 Processor, 4GB DDR4, 128GB eMMC Storage, Windows 10, TP401MA-AB21T
  • CPU: 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5- 8250 U
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 256GB HDD
  • Display: 14 inch (1920x 1080)
  • Battery: Up to 11 hours
  • Weight: 3.3 pounds

It is a budget-friendly model, with high multitasking capability. It is powered by a 1 GHz Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor and Windows 10 OS. With an aluminium body and sleek finish, it is durable yet lightweight and is very easy to hold and handle. Its processor works fine in case of basic computing operations and when one is using applications that do not require high processor speed.

It can multitask, but not for a very prolonged duration. However, the laptop might lag when it is used for gaming. Sometimes, gaming applications crash midway or even refuse to load, especially in case of performance-intensive games, which are high on visuals.

Despite having a large screen size of 14 inches, it is fairly easy to handle because it weighs significantly lesser than its contemporary convertibles. It also has two hinges, which are sturdy so that the keyboard and screen don’t get detached when each of them is rotated.

Further, it is very compact and can be seamlessly converted from tablet mode to laptop mode. The keyboard is generic, albeit muffled (ie) it does not make much sound when being typed on. The touchpad is also highly sensitive. It swiftly and accurately spots touch- gestures without disruption.

The display looks sharp and clear but may cause some lag, especially when one is multitasking. Hence, one has to change display settings, if one wants to switch between multiple windows. The display panel is not very vivid, but it does not cause much eye strain on the user.

However, its glossy finish makes the screen hard to view when one is outdoors or working where there is a lot of light. There are too much glare and multiple reflections. The screen bezels are arranged in such a way that one can rest their thumbs on them, giving them a firmer grip while typing, or using the convertible, in general.

It has good audio systems, which are sufficiently loud and sound does not get distorted when played at high volume. Further, it works wonders when in case of personal listening. The device has all the standard ports and a headphone jack, in their usual places.

It has a 4GB RAM and a 64GB storage, which can be expanded by inserting a microSD card. Despite having a low RAM and lower-end processor, this device is efficient, especially when one is using it for prolonged, basic functions such as creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

It has an incredible battery life and high battery capacity. The battery does not get drained out easily and lasts at least for 11 hours after being fully charged when subjected to the video loop test. Hence, this laptop is good for basic prolonged use and also for streaming content.

When it comes to using processor-intensive applications like gaming and video- editing, it might lag. However, if one wants to use a convertible for basic needs like writing, browsing, reading, tabulating, watching, videos and listening to music, without all these activities taking a toll on their battery, one must choose Asus Vivobook Flip.

  • Long battery life
  • Budget-friendly
  • Durable body
  • Sleek design
  • Energy efficient
  • Slow processor
  • Screen glare when used in heavy lighting conditions

4. Lenovo 300e Flagship 2 in 1 laptop

2019 New Lenovo 300e Flagship 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet for Business or Education, 11.6' HD IPS Touchscreen, Intel Celeron Quad-Core N3450 up to 2.2GHz, 4GB DDR4, 64GB eMMC SSD, WiFi, Webcam, Win 10 S/Pro
  • CPU: 1.1 Ghz Intel Celeron N3450 8th generation
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • Display: 11.6 inch (1368×788)
  • Battery: Up to 8 hours
  • Weight: 3.19 pounds

The Lenovo 300e Flagship convertible is designed with a special focus on students. It can be used by school students of all age groups, from kids in primary school up to those in high school. The design of the laptop is rugged and the convertible is durable and pressure resistant. In other words, it does not break easily and one can handle it with moderate caution.

Its hinges are sturdy and can rotate up to 360 degrees. It can be used in two modes- the writing mode, where one can type or take notes using the Active Pen, which is a digital stylus and the reading mode, where one can read, browse or watch videos.

The convertible is powered by an Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz processor, which can clock up to a maximum of 2.2 GHz. The processor is sufficiently fast for multitasking and does not show any unusual lag or disruption. Hence, one can use multiple windows simultaneously. It is also great for basic computing and schoolwork which involves creating documents, spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

However, it might tend to lag if one is using heavy-duty applications like games, which are high on visuals. Further, if one is planning to use photoshop applications and install IDLEs, one must verify the system requirements of each application before proceeding further.

Further, the laptop could have used a better graphics card since the Intel 500 graphics card is almost dated. This makes viewing videos that are high on graphics slightly difficult, as one might encounter lags. It comes with a 4 GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The RAM capacity could have been higher, since applications that need a lot of storage space and need more RAM to function may not work properly on the device.

Such applications get stuck and crash midway or worse, do not boot at all. It runs on Windows 10 Home in S mode. This greatly enhances the security of the device as it comes with an inbuilt firewall. Further, one can install apps that are available only on the Microsoft Play Store and browse using Microsoft Edge alone. Though this may seem like improved safety, one is prevented from using other browsers.

It has an 11.6 inch HD display with low resolution. This makes it good for watching videos and movies, but not those that have intense visuals. The display is not dull but could have been more vivid. It has multi-touch capabilities and has anti-glare, hence it can be used outdoors or wherever there is a lot of light, without any glare or multiple reflections. It has a solid battery life of 8 hours and charges fast.

  • Long battery life
  • Active Pen
  • Anti-glare features
  • Durable body and rugged design
  • Decent processor
  • Restrictions on browser compatibility and app installations.
  • Dated graphics card

5. Samsung Chromebook Plus V2

Samsung Chromebook Plus V2, 2-in-1, 4GB RAM, 32GB eMMC, 13MP Camera, Chrome OS, 12.2', 16:10 Aspect Ratio, Light Titan (XE520QAB-K01US)
  • CPU: 1.5 Ghz Intel Celeron3965Y
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • Display: 12.2 inch FHD (1920x 1200)
  • Battery: Up to 5 hours
  • Weight:2.98 pounds

This has a built-in stylus that can be easily used on its touch screen display. The stylus does not get stuck and the screen is particularly sensitive to gestures and strokes of the stylus. Its design is stylish and its sleek design gives it a premium look.

Its corners are rounded, instead of being pointy and its construction is slim, making it compact and pretty easy to hold and handle. Its hinges are sturdy and can rotate up to 360 degrees, which help in an easy and quick tablet- laptop interconversion. This makes the device easily portable and highly user- friendly.

Its stylus is passive (ie) it doesn’t have a battery of its own and erase features. However, it performs efficiently, without any disruption. The keyboard is also spacious, which allows the user to type faster and more accurately. The touchpad is also highly sensitive. It can easily sense the gestures and responds quickly to the user’s touch.

It weighs 2.9 pounds and is in fact, one of the lightest laptops amongst its price range. It has an 11.6-inch display with 1,920 by 1,080-pixel resolution. This makes it especially suitable for people who stream a lot of videos and browse a lot on their devices. Since it has a high resolution, the display is very sharp and clear. It is also vivid and vibrant, with appropriate tone and saturation for every colour.

It is powered by a 1.5 GHz Celeron processor, has 4 GB RAM and 32GB flash drive storage.  It has all the generic USB ports in their appropriate places and it also has a microSD card slot, if one feels the need to expand the device’s storage. Though it doesn’t have an HDMI output, the double USB ports can act as apt substitutes.

It works on a Chromebook OS, hence it has quick browsing capabilities and has less boot time. Though the processor it is powered on is low- end, the processor performs decently for basic audio and image filtering and processing.

Its RAM might seem significantly low, especially when compared to its contemporaries. Huge applications might lag, encounter disruption or even crash during operation. Worse, such applications may even refuse to boot. Hence this device may not be the right fit for gamers, due to its RAM and processor speed.

However, it has a good graphics card, which helps the user view videos and use applications which are high on graphics and visuals. Supported by its vivid display screen, it is a good choice for people who watch a lot of high- quality movies, web series and games that don’t require much storage but are high on graphics.

The only major downside of this device is its battery life. When subjected to a video loop test, it averages only 5 hours and 45 minutes. Further, it drains out quickly and charges at moderate speeds. Hence, it cannot be used for long hours without being connected to a power supply through an adapter.

Its audio systems are good but the speakers are placed below, so the audio seems to be muffled, even when being played at a high volume. Hence if one wants their laptop to be more than just a computing device, with great design, light and durable body and brilliant display, one can buy this.

  • Low battery life
  • Compatible only with applications that can be run on Chromebook OS
  • Low battery life
  • Compatible only with applications that can be run on Chromebook OS

6. Acer Chromebook R13

Acer Chromebook R 13 Convertible, 13.3-inch Full HD Touch, MediaTek MT8173C, 4GB LPDDR3, 32GB, Chrome, CB5-312T-K5X4
  • CPU: 1.1 Ghz MediaTek M8173C
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • Display: 13.3 inch (1920x 1080)
  • Battery: Up to 8 hours
  • Weight:3.24 pounds

This laptop is most suited for students, who need to get a lot of assignments done, read and browse quickly and extensively on their devices. It is thin, sleek and lightweight, thereby being easily portable. It is made of plastic, with a sturdy metal frame surrounding the body of the device. It is quite compact and easy to carry, hold and handle.

It is powered by a 2.1 GHz MediaTek quad-core processor. This makes it highly effective in basic computing, watching decent- quality videos and basic office and student use like writing, creating documents, PowerPoint presentations, tabulations and spreadsheets.

However, one can observe some stuttering and lag when one is playing 4K video files. Hence the processor may not be apt for applications which require a lot of performance and processor speed, especially software for gaming, audio, video and photo editing. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which can be expanded by inserting a microSD card in the appropriate slot.

Further, if one wants to browse quickly using Google Chrome, one must have a high-speed Wi-Fi connection. This might be a hindrance, especially when one is using a public network, where a lot of devices are connected to the network at a time.

The display measures 13.3 inches and the resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 pixels. It enables us to watch HD videos, stream Netflix or even surf the web, with the screen displaying videos or search results in a sharp, clear and legible manner. Further, this helps one view the videos with significantly less eye strain.

However, brightness could be improved. The screen seems too dull when one is watching videos late at night, basically when there is very little light. The audio systems are good, but the speakers are positioned beneath the body of the convertible hence if one wants to listen to audio at the loudest volume possible without it sounding muffled, one must place the convertible in the ‘tent’ mode.

The keyboard is slightly different from generic keyboards that are seen on convertibles. It feels very springy to touch, hence one might want to be careful and use softer strokes while typing.  The keyboard depresses (ie) goes inside while one places his hands on it and starts typing.

This way, it makes the user feel overtly wary of the keyboard while typing and hence, might reduce their typing speed and make typing tasks slower. It is not backlit (ie) the borders of the keys do not light up when the device is on, hence one might find typing in low- light conditions difficult.

Since its CPU is low- powered, the device has decent battery life. It lasts for 8 hours when subjected to a video loop test. Since most of its functions are basic, it can easily last for a long time.

Further, it also charges at a decent rate. If one’s functions are limited to writing assignments, files, browsing and watching videos, one can definitely go for this device as it offers solid performance, when used for such basic needs. However, if one wants to photo- editing apps or in general, intensive applications, one may have to think twice.

  • Good for basic use
  • Quick browsing
  • Compact and portable
  • Decent processor
  • Good battery life
  • The audio system must be improved
  • The keyboard must be made more durable

7. Lenovo Chromebook C330

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop, 11.6-Inch HD (1366 x 768) IPS Display, MediaTek MT8173C Processor, 4GB LPDDR3, 64 GB eMMC, Chrome OS, 81HY0000US, Blizzard White
  • CPU: 1.1 Ghz MediaTek MT8173C
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 32GB eMMC
  • Display: 11.6 inch (1368x 788)
  • Battery: Up to 9.5 hours
  • Weight:2.6 pounds

The Lenovo Chromebook C330 comes with a 360-degree screen and the edges are thick, making it slightly difficult to hold in one’s hands and use as a tablet. The display measures 11.6 inches and it’s pretty comfortable for the user to watch videos, browse and read extensively for a prolonged duration without significant strain on one’s eyes.

The body is made entirely out of plastic but it is sturdy, durable and rugged. The screen has low resolution but it can display colours with proper tones and saturation without any blur or overlapping, hence it is very easy on one’s eyes and viewer-friendly.

It has one of the best keyboards available in the market. The keys are spaced appropriately and one can type fast and error-free on this keyboard. It is very sensitive to one’s keystrokes hence one need not press too hard to type. This is a great choice for people who need to do a lot of writing. The touchpad is also sensitive to one’s touch and gestures. It responds swiftly and accurately to the touch input.

However, this does not have a backlit keyboard. Hence, it makes it difficult for night owls, who use their devices extensively at night. Basically, it makes it hard for the user to type in low- light conditions.

It is powered by a 1.7 GHz MediaTek processor. This makes it a good choice for basic office and student use, which involves typing, drawing, creating spreadsheets and presentations. It has a 4GB RAM and internal storage of 64 GB, which can be expanded by inserting a microSD card into the appropriate slot. It boots very fast but tends to be slow when subjected to higher-end operations.

When intense graphics are being played or when one is trying to process audio, photo and video files, the system lags and even crashes. Hence if one is planning to use storage and performance-intensive applications, one must ascertain the system requirements before proceeding to installation and usage.

It has an amazing battery life of 9 hours and 20 minutes, which was what it had averaged on the video loop test. Hence if one is always on the move, this is a very good choice as it lasts for a long time, even if it’s used continuously.

Hence if one needs a basic laptop for their work that involves a lot of files, creating and uploading documents and presentations, or if one needs to browse a lot and is always on the move, the Lenovo Chromebook R13 is a good choice.

  • Compact design
  • Budget-friendly
  • Amazing battery life
  • User- friendly keyboard
  • Quick browsing features
  • Low-resolution display
  • Backlit keyboard unavailable

8. XIDU Philbook 2 in 1 11.6

XIDU PhilBook Touchscreen 2-in-1 Laptop, 11.6-inch Full HD IPS Display, Intel Quad Core Atom Z8350 Processor, 4GB LPDDR3, 64GB eMMC, Webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows 10 Convertible Notebook, Silver
  • CPU: 1.4 Ghz Intel Atom
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • Display: 11.6 inch (1920x 1080)
  • Battery: Up to 9 hours
  • Weight: 2.4 pounds

Launched recently, the XIDU Philbook 2 in 1 has gained a lot of attention, especially from spec geeks and market analysts. It is powered by Intel Atom quad-core CPU and performs well. It is supported by Windows 10 OS.

One might expect the booting time and performance time of the device to be too high since Windows 10 has a lot of features that need to load before the user can actually access any applications. However, the device boots fast and also performs well, without any significant lag and disruption.

It has a 4 GB RAM and internal storage of 64 GB, which can be expanded by inserting a microSD card. However, one does not experience any major issues while operating the device. It can be used in 4 modes- normal, tent, display and tablet. The build is compact and the design is sleek, giving the model a sophisticated look and the user a premium experience.

The keyboard is generic, with evenly spaced keys that don’t squeak too much when one is typing on them. The touchpad is also good. It easily and accurately gauges the user’s gestures and touch and responds swiftly and aptly.

The phone is good when the user plays light games (ie) games that do not occupy a lot of space on one’s device, games that are not filled with too much graphics and games that do not require high processor speed.

It has all the USB ports, headphone jack and HDMI ports in the usual place. Hence users who have used other convertibles or laptops or tablets can easily get accustomed to this device and would not find using it very difficult. The laptop weighs about 2.42 pounds. While this may sound heavy, this speaks a lot for the durability of the device.

Most Chinese models are notorious for their flimsy devices, which are made of low- cost, low- quality materials.  However, in the case of this device, there is no compromise on quality and it is reasonably durable and sturdy.

The display has decent resolution, the screen is vivid, displaying colours with proper saturation and contrast without any blur or discrepancy. This makes it a good choice for watching good quality videos, browsing and reading.

The device has amazing battery life. When subjected to a video loop test, it averages about 6-8 hours after a full charge. The battery does not drain out too quickly and the phone charges at a reasonable speed. Hence, this phone is apt for people whose profession involves a lot of travelling.

  • Good battery life
  • Great value for money
  • Compact
  • Premium design
  • Good processor
  • Prone to lagging in case  of heavy-duty applications
  • Backlit display unavailable

9. HP Pavilion x360

HP Pavilion x360, Premium 2019 Flagship 11.6 inch HD IPS Touchscreen 2 in 1 Laptop, Intel Quad-Core Pentium Silver N5000, 4GB DDR4, 500GB HDD, HD Webcam Bluetooth 4.2 802.11ac USB 3.1 HDMI Win 10
  • CPU: 1.3 Ghz Intel i3- 8145U 8th generation
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Display: 14 HD inch (1368x 788)
  • Battery: Up to 6 hours
  • Weight:3.5 pounds

The product is heavily influenced by HP Spectre x360 but most features have been modified to make it a 2 in 1 laptop. The body is made out of plastic and the amount of hardware has been significantly reduced, hence it weighs less and is highly portable.

The hinge design is basic but is highly efficient. The hinges are sturdy and open in a synchronized manner. They are fit for prolonged usage and the device can be operated in normal, display, writing and tent mode, without being wary of the hinges.

Further, for all its smooth finish, it offers a firm grip and ensures the device has sufficient friction to not slip easily off the hands of the user.

It weighs 3 pounds and one can find a full-sized HDMI port and all the 3 USB ports where one would expect them to be found on any convertible, tablet or a laptop. The power buttons, volume control and the 3.5 mm headphone jack are positioned where one would often expect them to be found. This way, people who have used other convertibles or tablets have no difficulty in getting accustomed to using this device. It has an 11.6-inch display that is ideal for usage as both laptop and tablet.

The reasonably large screen size makes it easy for the user to watch videos, movies and read without significant eye strain. The display uses an IPS panel, with the perfect amount of saturation and tone and offers a great viewing experience, from any angle.

The colour, contrast and various display parameters are highly accurate making it a good choice for people who binge-watch and stream a lot of movies, videos and web series at a high picture and video quality. The screen also supports multi-touch applications and also comes with an Active Pen, which is a digital stylus that can be used to draw on the screen.

The system has a 4 GB RAM and 500 GB internal storage, which can be expanded. It is powered by an Intel 1.1 GHz Pentium processor. It is good for doing basic file- handling and watching shows, but it’s multitasking capabilities are not at par with most of its contemporaries. But it offers a solid performance when each task is performed exclusively.

Its Intel Graphics 505 card is also dated, hence one cannot stream intense visuals or engage in hardcore gaming. In a battery test conducted where the laptop was used extensively for browsing, the device lasted 5 hours and 48 minutes. This is a pretty low value when compared to the battery lives of its contemporaries.

The sound quality is impeccable, with the sound being played on the speakers being loud enough and not too jarring. Further, there was no distortion of sound and there was no noise added. This is due to its B&O audio systems, which also come with a lot of control options. Using these options, one can pre-decide the volume of each audio output.

For example, one can decide and configure the volumes at which one wants to listen to dialogues, songs and background music respectively. The keyboard also works well and the touchpad is highly swift and accurate at recognizing gestures and responds accordingly.

1. What are the advantages of a 2 in 1 laptop?

If someone wants a medium-range, versatile device that packs the benefits of both tablet and laptop, one must consider buying a 2 in 1 laptop. It is very beneficial for people who want their devices to be easily portable, user- friendly and are more comfortable with touchscreen interfaces than a typical keyboard interface.

2. What are the disadvantages of a 2 in 1 laptop?

Since they are medium-range devices, they generally have slow processors and limited memory. Hence they cannot be used for energy-guzzling, performance-intensive applications like gaming and editing software. Many even suffer from issues with battery and sound systems. Unless these issues, apart from others, are fixed, convertibles cannot fully replace tablets and laptops that are currently available in the market.

3. How does a 2 in 1 laptop work?

The laptop has a screen that is similar to a tablet. The keyboard is attached to the screen through 2 hinges, which are capable of rotating up to 360 degrees. Based how the user wants to operate the convertible, the screen can be made to be facing the user and the keyboard can be made to rest flat on the table when one is typing or can be flipped and kept as a ‘tent’ when one is watching videos.

4. How to choose the best 2 in 1 laptop?

Before embarking upon this process, one must consider a lot of factors like the specifications of the device, its cost, warranty and brand reliability. One must check whether the 2 in 1 laptop has ample capacity to meet one’s needs and especially one must check whether the processor speed and memory are sufficient for the functions that one is about to perform using their convertible

All the convertibles discussed here have their own merits and demerits. The user is advised to ascertain his/ her requirements, match them with the specifications of the product, evaluate its pricing and finally come to a conclusion. After a thorough analysis of various key parameters, we have concluded that the XIDU Philbook 2 in 1 11.6 is the best 2 in 1 laptop.

Despite XIDU being a recent brand, it offers tough competition to even established tablet and laptop manufacturers. It has a good processor, which can multitask efficiently and it also has good display and audio systems.Further, it has a great battery life, does not drain out easily and charges at a very high speed. It is also compact, weighs reasonably less and is easily portable.

All these and a lot more make it a good choice for professionals whose jobs involve a lot of travelling, school and college students. It comes with great value for money.

Best Black and White Laser Printer for Home Use in 2020

1. Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer, HLL2395DW

Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer, HLL2395DW, Flatbed Copy & Scan, Wireless Printing, NFC, Cloud-Based Printing & Scanning, Amazon Dash Replenishment Ready - BLACK
  • Type of Printer– Monochrome Laser
  • Print Speed- 36 ppm
  • Input paper capacity– 250 pages, output 15000 pages per month
  • Weight– 23 pounds,
  • CPU– 600 mhz, RAM– 128 MB
  • Warranty– 1 year

This has been heralded as the best all in one, monochrome printers of today’s times by CNET. This is probably the best black and white laser printer for home use because of the ease of setting it up with the WiFi, the speed with which it prints the pages, the good, if not great, flatbed copier and scanner. The faster CPU reduces the time for a task, especially if it is a complex print, despite having the apps for being a wireless printer.

The building has been streamlined, it is more squarish in shape from its predecessor. It has a 2.7-inch touch screen, which is quite sensitive and well placed. The 2 line LCD screen helps you see the status of your printing as well. It is black in colour and is sleek and slightly heavy.

The biggest advantage is the 36 pages per minute printing, which along with a 250 sheet input tray, is versatile enough to accommodate everything from letters to envelopes. The automatic duplex printing helps this to get doubled side printing in a single pass.

You do not need to take the paper out and reinsert it to print on the other side. The toner saving mode helps you select the quality of printing to scan and thereby regulating your cost.

The other very important plus is the WiFi connectivity. This is a painless Wi-Fi connected device, which helps make print outs from any cloud storage, it can also scan and send it to cloud storage. Printing via ethernet connections is one of the fastest that is there. The touch to connect printing with NFC is probably God sent. It is not only comfortable and easy, it also saves a lot of time.

At 23 pounds, this is neither a compact nor a heavy printer. The noise it makes while printing is similar to that of all other laser printers, though they have an added option of reducing the noise by half, which does affect the speed of printing. The dPi is also adjustable, though a higher resolution would again mean a slower printing, the quality would be far superior. It has Brother’s 1-year limited replacement and repair warranty which are subject to conditions.

Overall it is by far one of the best monochrome printers even though it is tad expensive. It would be best if you await a sale or deal to purchase this printer.

  • The printing speed of 36 ppm is fast.
  • The wifi connectivity is great and easy to set up
  • Prints double side in a single feed.
  • It does not support USB 3.0

2. Lexmark B3442dw Monochrome Laser Printer with Full-Spectrum Security

Lexmark B3442dw Monochrome Laser Printer with Full-Spectrum Security and Print Speed up to 42 ppm(29S0300),Gray/White,Small

One of the latest offerings from Lexmark, this is the best black and white laser printer for home use for those who prefer a simple, compact and fuss-free printer, which is efficient yet affordable and like having their print needs fulfilled fast and have moderate to high value prints.

The paper handling of 550 sheets average with a maximum capacity of 900, is a boon for those small businesses that are starting out from home and are doing well. The tray is efficient and feeds the printer versatile sizes ranging from envelopes to legal 8.5” * 14” size.

The output bin is of 150 sheets, which gets a tad bit difficult if you are inputting a large number of prints, but otherwise is comfortable. It has a fairly standard duplex inline printing, with two-line readability, the duplex printing doesn’t slow the print speeds, the quality is good and efficient.

This is a compact, light printer, which is two-thirds of the size of normal laserjet printers, therefore, sits comfortably well on any desk surface and can be kept close for handy usage. The first printout time of this printer is 5.9 seconds, which can churn a maximum of 80,000 pages in a month. The 1 GHz processor powered by a 256 MB RAM is fast and efficient for everyday use. With fairly standard and expected PCL and Postscript, ethernet and wireless  and mobile connectivity, this is a dependable model.

The USP of this printer for us is the trademark Lexmark’s Unison Toner. This is an extremely cost-saving and systematic toner whereby there is a separate toner, fuser along with a separate imaging unit, which then uses a multi-piece architecture design powering it to reach a stage where there is reduction in toner waste and an increase in the long-life system reliability. The low toner warning sounds well and clear. The crisp print quality of 1200 dpi is good.

There are two options for cartridges, one standard cartridge, which this product ships with, gives out  1500 pages of use. Whereas, there are extra yield and extra-extra yield versions available that give out 3000 and 6000 pages.

Lexmark also has a green initiative whereby you ship 10 empty cartridge containers to them and they send you one free along with a free imaging kit. Weighing nearly 20.6 pounds, this is lightweight enough for home use and to be moved around. The one-year limited warranty from Lexmark protects against any manufacturing defects.

  • Compact and clean design
  • Fast and crisp printing
  • Latest model, hence all network connectivity.
  • No automatic page feeder
  • Not efficient for large businesses.

If you are one of those who print fairly occasionally, especially when a lot of precision printing is not needed. Also you need a printer at home and can’t get it done anywhere out, then the best black and white laser printer for home use is HP LaserJet Pro M102w. This is a small, compact wireless laser printer. This is just a printer which is mobile printing enabled.

Because it is just a printer, which doesn’t perform any other functions like scan, copy and fax, the printing needed to be better. The prints are just okay and high precision printing is not even a possibility with this printer. Having said that, for domestic personal use, when you know you don’t have to print much, an occasional document or two, this is a very compact printer, which can easily be stored on a shelf or a small cupboard.

This is a slow printer. Despite claiming a 23 ppm, this printer nearly prints only 17-18 ppm. The print quality is not very clean, with small errors and ink spots found here and there across the document. The biggest advantage of this printer though is the low cost printing. If found out, the average cost of a print with this printer is as low as $0.04. In our entire review, we did not come across a lower cost.

It has printing through mobile connectivity, cloud storage, wi-fi connect, through the HP specialised app. The printer cannot be connected via ethernet though. Weighing a mere 10 pounds, this is super light to carry and store wherever you want and move around. Backed by a powerful HP customer support, this monochrome laser printer comes with a 1 year warranty.

Even though this printer comes with limitations, for those who are on a budget and need something for the occasional use, should and could invest in this.

  • The low cost printing
  • The compact size
  • Extremely affordable
  • Poor print quality along with slow printing.

5. Brother Monochrome Laser Multifunction All-in-One Printer, MFC-L5700DW

  • Print Speed- 42ppm
  • Print tray capacity of 520 sheets
  • Weight– 21 pounds
  • CPU– 800 Mhz  RAM– 512 MB
  • Warranty- 1 year

Lets face it. This is a slightly large multi use printer. If you are wondering what would you do with this at home, we beg you to think again. If you have a small business, office or you need any of these functions more often than never, then this is the best blach and white laser printer for home use.

The USP of this multi-function is the paper capacity, which is very much large, and expandable, the printing for text and graphs are good, though graphic printing is slightly above average only. It is small and compact enough to be kept at home, while being large enough to handle high-value home printing and home business needs. It can fit on any workstation or desktop.

The 3.7 inch colored control panel helps you select the function you need while a scan or fax option will awaken the invisible number pad. It is customisable whereby you can set up 48 shortcuts or preset functions for everyday tasks.  The standard capacity is of 300 sheets which gets expandable upto 520 sheets by using cassettes.

This model has a 50 sheet automatic document feeder, which is a boon. This model though doesn’t have a duplexing feature for ADF, but otherwise has an automatic duplex printing. The scanning is much advanced and the resolution crisper than most mid range ones. The security is assured with the three features of Active directory, secure function lock and secure print.

The setup is fairly simple, with just a software installation needed. The documents printed at the given speed of 42ppm, while the text and graphs came out fairly well, the images and graphics were very average and standard. It is prefunctionarily suited for small businesses and others. The running cost at a capacity of 8000 pages is 1.6 cents, which is pretty economical compared to other brands.

This is a fast, good quality printer to meet volume needs of a household or small businesses run via household. With a 1 year limited warranty, this product fares well in all domains.

  • The speed of printing of 42 ppm
  • The fact that it is a multi-function and all perform well
  • It has ADF
  • Could be slightly overwhelming at first

6. Pantum P2502W Monochrome Laser Printer

Pantum P2502W Monochrome Laser Printer with Wireless Networking and Mobile Printing
  • Type- Monochrome (black and white) laser printer
  • Print Speed- 23ppm
  • Paper input tray capacity- 150 sheets. Monthly Maximum Page output- 8000 sheets
  • Weight– 12.57 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year

Before you set out to purchase this, remember this is an under 100$ printer, it is supremely budget so one shouldn’t have tall expectations from this printer. Pantum P2050 is a very sparsely featured printer, which isn’t constructed to impress anyone, rather just provide functional prints.

The graphic and picture print is below average, the text printing is above standard. The fact that it is reliably and solidly built, along with a good text print out, it can be your best black and white laser printer for home use when used occasionally.

It is a personal printer which is mostly only connected via USB or wi-fi. It makes it very basic for just sparse home use. The control of this printer is entirely through the computer, with the printer in itself having a single button which does the task of cancel and continue. The sheet tray capacity of 150 sheets is good enough for personal use. The claimed page per minute of 23 actually worked out as 21 for us, which again though is pretty standard and functional.

The print quality for text is above standard, but the quality for graphics and images are below par. In case you need to just print out texts, in any font size, this still works well for you. Graphics get banding and dithering dot patterns on them. The cost of printing is at 3.5 cents per print, which if you have very sparse use, is decent.

The Pantum printers are durable and tend to last long. Pantum is a brand which has recently entered the market as low-end printing solutions. They have a long history of manufacturing printer consumables. This particular model is a good looking printer for all said and done. The black colour makes it very sleek and the small size makes it fit well enough anywhere.

Being compact and lightweight at 13.4 pounds, with the toner cartridge, this printer is a functional product if you are on a budget and looking for something perfunctory.

  • Under 100$
  • Above average text printing
  • Durable
  • Subpar printing quality of graphic and photos

7. Xerox B210DNI Monochrome Laser Printer

Xerox B210DNI Monochrome Laser Printer, White
  • Type- Monochrome printer, duplex printing,
  • Print Speed- 31 ppm
  • 250 sheet tray paper capacity, expandable by 1 manual tray
  • Maximum monthly page output- 30,000
  • Weight– 16.7 pounds
  • CPU– 600 MHz RAM- 256 MB
  • Warranty– 3 year conditional

This is a beauty of a product from the masters in imaging Xerox. This can be your best black and white laser printer for home use especially if you have a small office or kids at home for whom you need good quality printing. At a text print speed of 31 ppm and a first print time interval of 8.5 seconds.

The paper capacity of 250 sheets with a single sheet bypass is a very good capacity for personal use. This printer supports documents from envelopes to legal sized sheets. It has standard duplex printing which makes it a pretty good buy for the price. The features that are extra here are- bi-directional real time status, print contrast adjustments, poster printing, booklet creation amongst others.

This is not an easy to set up machine. The set up is complicated and it takes time to initially configure the printer. Any alterations that are needed need to be done via a web-interface and that is archaic because it kept timing out. Any firmware update requires a complicated procedure and then needs you to unplug and reboot the machine.

It has all basic security features in place for eg- IP filtering disabling USB port,  self-signed certificate creation,  software verification amongst others. The cost per print works out to a low 2.9 cents thanks to the high performing and capacity cartridge toner.

This print quality though is the reason the setup becomes incidental. The crisp images, the above average graphics and the very high quality text prints, leave you with a satisfied feeling. This is lightweight enough for you to store it on any shelf, while being compact enough to keep it on your workstation. This product is a pleaser if you work around the setup and need high quality prints.

  • The print quality
  • 3500 page high quality-toner
  • Compact storage and low weight
  • A very complicated setup process

8. Canon imageCLASS LBP226dw

Canon Imageclass LBP226dw - Wireless, Mobile-Ready, Duplex Laser Printer, with Expandable Paper Capacity Up to 900 Sheets (Item Code: 3516C005)
  • Type- Monochrome laser printer
  • Print Speed- 40 ppm
  • Paper capacity of 900 sheets
  • Warranty: 1 year
  • Weight: 20.3 pounds
  • CPU: Canon custom processor RAM– 1 BG

There can be arguments against this printer being included for home use. This is a medium ranged product, which is good for small offices. But we beg to disagree slightly. While this is a very good product for small offices, if you are not on a budget and need high precision print outs with top-notch printing, this is THE best black and white laser printer for home use.

This printer is a single function machine, which is just a printer and doesn’t require much else apart from a simple touchscreen LCD control panel. The screen has an array of number keys along with buttons, which form the feature of this 5 line LCD screen.

This printer is equipped with a built-in web function that not only allows you to set it up but control the consumables, run reports on usage, alter security amongst others. There is a one-touch button that performs a multitude of functions like print function, standard template amongst others.

The use of Canon’s custom processor, coupled with 1 GB memory, makes it a very fast and efficient printer. The first print out comes at 5.3 seconds, being supported by Canon’s proprietorial language and PCL. This printing language includes-  USB, Ethernet, PostScript.and Wi-Fi are standard.

The print options are versatile and allow a direct print of JPEG, PDF, and TIFF files. The sheet tray carries 250 sheets, with 100 extra being carried in the Multipurpose tray. This is expandable with a cassette of 550 sheets.

There is a 65 sheets output print bed, which is adequate enough for homes and small businesses. It also has standard duplexing and the time taken for duplexing doesn’t alter the ppm much. It has all additional and standard printing features like secure print, page border print amongst others. It uses all connectivity options necessary for a home printer or a small scale business printer. It even has all safety protocols in place.

The standard toner that this product shops with prints around 1500 pages. There are options to use high yield toners which can print anywhere between 3000 to 20000 pages. With a very high yield printer, the printing cost comes to as low at 1.3 cents per page, comparable to inkjet printers.

The beauty of this printer is the print out quality. The text prints are all well-shaped, legible despite the font style or size or any ornamentation on the page. For grayscale graphics, there was no banding, no dithering dots, no lighter background. They came out rock solid and professional quality. Their photos too don’t have any banding, darkness alterations, graininess. They are super sharp, detailed. They are not for printing photos for the books, but for printing photos in booklets and documents.

At 20.3 pounds it is one of the heavier laser jet printers available in the market, but yet they are the most low cost, reliable and high quality printer. So if you have to churn out a good volume of pages for home use, go ahead with this.

  • Above par print quality
  • Low running costs
  • Duplexing
  • Expensive for just a printer

9. HP Laserjet Pro M15a World’s Smallest Black-and-White Monochrome Laser Printer

HP Laserjet Pro M15a World's Smallest Black-and-White Monochrome Laser Printer W2G50A (Includes Toner and USB Cable)
  • Type- Monochrome Laser
  • Print Speed- 19ppm
  • Paper capacity try 100 sheets
  • Warranty– 1 year
  • Weight– 9.96 pounds

This is a printer which is solely and primarily designed for those who are suddenly caught cross between working from home or homeschooling and need something small, perfunctory, reliable to meet their needs and yet be cheap and not break their bank. This is a basic printer which just prints A4 or a smaller size. This doesn’t have any extended or advanced features like duplex printing, scanning, adf amongst others.

It does have fast printing of 19ppm in comparison to other products in this range, while being as compact as the paper it carries. The size is small and compact enough to barely take up more space than an A4 sheet. Which means you can safely store it just about anywhere in your house. The two neatly foldable trays help it get this small compact form. The height also is akin to the smartphones we use. This is a background noise free printer, which makes a lot of noise when print is on.

The toner cartridge is surprisingly quite large and fits right into the center of the machine. The app that is the companion alerts you about the levels and when replacement is needed. There is a small square USB port along with the Mobile connectivity, wi-fi connectivity options.

The companion app acts as a scanner. It has decent quality scanning from your smartphone and you can thus print it wirelessly from your printer. There is no dual printing option, you need to manually reinsert to print on both sides of the paper. The printing sped and print quality is set at 19 ppm and 600*600 dpi You can not alter either. It self switches off saving you power, it boots up equally fast so you needn’t worry about not having a printer ready when you need it.

The printer is very easy to set up with the help of your smartphone and it directly connects to the wifi and devices attached to it. This is a device which is devised to print text and text alone. The photos and graphics quality isn’t good, but that is expected.

 10. Lexmark B2338dw Monochrome Laser Printer

Lexmark B2338dw Monochrome Laser Printer Offers Duplex, Two-Sided Printing, Enhanced Security with Wireless & Ethernet Network Capability All in a Compact Machine (36SC120),Grey
  • Type- Monochrome laser
  • Print Speed- 36 ppm
  • Sheet tray capacity of 250 with a feeder of 100
  • Weight– 30.6 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year

This is a good printer not only for personal home use, but small workgroups that operate out of home. The print quality is average, the speed and paper capacity great while being efficient and reliable.

This printer has an angled front, which has a tiny, two-lined monochrome display, which has buttons which help you navigate or change the settings. This has an automatic duplexer which easily and automatically prints on both sides of the paper. The 250 sheet tray capacity is easily expandable to upto 900 sheets.

The price and yield comparison for Lexmarks toner cartridge and imaging unit is 4,2 cents, which is comparatively high in the range. If you adhere to the terms and conditions of the Lexmark return programme, you can easily get the cartridge for less and the overall cost would reduce to 3.1 cents. So if this is a high cost printer, then why should this even be an option?

The speed matters. The Lexmark is a super fast and efficient printer. At 36 ppm, this is by far one of the fastest we reviewed, the images per minute is also very high at 19 ppm. The print quality is very standard and good until and unless you print really small fonts. The photo quality is also standard. The graphics leave scope of improvement, but then, it doesn’t matter much for home use or small business use.

The connectivity and set up time is another cincher. With ethernet, wi-fi, wi-fi direct, USB and mobile connectivity, this is very much in league with most other printers of today’s times. While setting this up, installing Lexmark’s XL universal driver along with PCL driver and a PostScript driver will yield better results, and help you increase the quality of your image printing.

The initial setup takes time, the weight of 30.6 pounds is on the heavier side. Choose this only if you need high speed printing.

  • High speed printing
  • Good print quality
  • Connectivity is good
  • Heavy and expensive.

A process by which a printer prints on both sides of the paper is called duplexing. WHen you don’t have to remove the paper and reinsert it to print on the other side, it gets done while inline, it is called automatic duplexing.

Selecting a black and white laser printer for home use should be a breeze once you identify your requirements. What is your priority? Cost? Speed? Precision? Do you need to use multi functions or do you just use basic printing. Once you have found your requirements, it will not be difficult to choose the best from the list.

Remember laser printers are less time consuming. They need very little maintenance, who need to either print a lot, or rarely print and fear the ink getting dry. The last advantage is that the toner doesn’t smear when it is wet, making you have less room for errors and ruined documents.

HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Wireless Printer, HP Instant Ink, Works with Alexa (K7V40A)
  • Speed– 20 pages per minute
  • Volume– monthly duty cycle of max 1,000 pages
  • Weight– 12.37 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited hardware warranty

If you are on a budget and are looking for a multifunction printer then we suggest that one of the best printers under 100 dollars has to be HP OfficeJet 3830. It is by far one of the most popular choices on Amazon with a lot of satisfied reviews.

If you are looking for a small business printer and if you are starting out and are on a budget, or if you want it for home use and you need features like scanning and fax, then this is the by far best alternative. This is a very compact and lightweight model.

It has a scanner, copier and faxes with a 35 sheet tray capacity. The sheet tray is an automatic document feeder. The maximum output capacity of 1000 pages a month, with recommended usage of 250 sheets a month is at par with all other entry-level printers.

The touch screen panel helps you navigate between the functions and settings easily and select the desired function. The touch screen is extremely responsive and controls the entire setting. In the given price range, it is a rare surprise. This is a printer which for all its business functionalities doesn’t come with an ethernet port! Which is surprising to say the least.

Even though an ethernet is not important if the number of users is less than 5 and considering this to be a personal usage, the other network connectivity of wi-fi, wi-fi direct, USB connect, all work well. It even supports mobile printing.

The actual page per minute comes to 10 ppm, which is fairly decent. It is neither fast nor slow in comparable circles. What is a pleasant surprise is the print quality.

Despite it being an entry-level model with functional features, the print is at par to a laser printer, with fonts of all shapes and sizes being legibly printed. Even the graphics and the image printout came quite well. The gradients were all well nuanced.

It would be an expensive buy if you do not enrol into the instant ink feature. The instant ink feature brings down the cost of printing to as low as 3.5 cents a page. Overall it is a low volume printer good for those who need a starter multipurpose printer kit.

  • Low priced multifunction
  • Superior print quality
  • Touchscreen to control performance
  • The duplexing feature is a big miss

2. Canon TS302 Wireless Inkjet Printer, Black (2321C002)

A portable inkjet printer that one can carry anywhere they go! Unbelievable but true. You could carry it to school or a clients office as and when needed. This is the best printer under 100 for someone who needs portability more. This printer is capable of taking out printouts without wires or electricity. It comes ready to use.

To operate this you need to pair this with a phone which has the app. Once you pair this you can take colourful print outs and photo printouts on the go. Using the Canon Print Application, you can scan and copy documents as well. The print quality is surprisingly clear and good considering its size, as compared to other models, the print quality is just about okay.

This printer is tricky to set up as it doesn’t have a digital interface. You need to hook it up to a pc or any device and then set it up. The setup process is tedious for some, while some have complained it took them nearly 40 minutes to set it up. The printer comes with two cartridges. Black and colour. The cartridges give a print of 50-60 prints maximum.

It supports all standard paper sizes of 4*6, 5*7. 8*10 and letter sizes. The tray sheet can store a maximum of 60 sheets and is an automatic document feeder. It doesn’t print duplex, which though is also not unexpected given the size and price, but that is a feature which could have been a plus. This also fits in most XL cartridges.

Supporting AirPrint and wi-fi technology, this is a good printer for those who want a hassle free, if needed printer, which is super lightweight, compact and easy to carry.

  • Compact and lightweight
  • The print quality is good
  • Can also scan when connected to your mobile.
  • Difficult to set up.

3. Canon IVY Mobile Mini Photo Printer through Bluetooth(R)

Canon IVY Mobile Mini Photo Printer through Bluetooth(R), Slate Gray
  • Speed– 44 seconds
  • Volume– not applicable
  • Weight 5.6 ounces
  • Warranty– 1-year limited warranty

There is no one, we repeat, no one who innovates this genre of printers more than Canon. They always are on the go to disrupt the home and personal use market with off the charts products. Canon IVY is another such product.

This mobile mini model tops the chart for anyone who loves carrying a photo printer on their holiday with them. This photo printer operates in connection with a smartphone or tablet.

Measuring a very very compact 0.7 *3.2*4.7 inches, while being extremely lightweight at 5.6 ounces, this product is a crowd favorite. This prints a wallet-sized photo of 2 *3 inches.

As IVY is wholly connected and operated by a smartphone, it doesn’t have any control panel as such. It has a micro-USB connector used to charge the device with a LED which shows the status of the charge.

Canon IVY like others in this genre uses the Zink Zero Ink Technology, whereby the printer doesn’t actually require any ink or cartridge to print. Instead, the print paper comes infused with crystals or colour crystals as they are called.

When the printer emits heat, these crystals melt to display the colours on the paper. The print speed here is a function of the resolution, the size of the image, the depth of colours on the image and so on and so forth.

It is a good buy for the youngsters or others who are active on social media and like taking print outs from there or want something to make friends gifts with. You can only connect it wirelessly through Bluetooth and nothing else. You can print from cloud storage though.

The Canon mini-app acts as the control panel for this. Not only does it help you load and print photos from your storage, but it also lets you edit the pictures as and when you want.

Canon Mini Print helps you til or join multiple images at the edge and create a collage, a feature which is missing from most other printers. This is a good photo printer if you like small sized photos.

  • Good quality output
  • Decent printing speed
  • Solid and Durable
  • The colours tend to be slightly different than real images.

4. Canon Pixma MG3620 Wireless All-In-One Color Inkjet Printer

Canon Pixma MG3620 Wireless All-In-One Color Inkjet Printer with Mobile and Tablet Printing, Black
  • Speed: 9.9 image per minute (black) 5.7 image per minute (color)
  • Volume–
  • Weight– 11.9 pounds
  • Warranty– 1 year limited

If you are of those breeds who want a perfunctory and skeletal printer, just pay for the features they need to use and pay nothing else, then the best printer under 100 for them is the Canon Pixma MG 3620 wireless.

This is an above average speed, duplex printer without any more fuss. This is bespoken for its high image quality, lightning-fast scans and good color copying.

This multifunction is designed in a manner where the scanner lid forms a major portion of the design. To the left of the scanner lid is the control panel with the basic preset functions of choosing paper sizes, that too between a letter size or a 4*6 inch size.

The control panel also has a button to navigate the colour for black and white. It works for very basic copies using the control panel, but complex and multiple copy options are not available.

The claimed 5.7 images per minute is slightly slower than models of this range. Though there is a quiet mode, which reduces the sound of printing, but also slows the printing down by a few seconds.

The biggest advantage of this model remains its duplex printing. The duplex printing is inline, which means it is automatic and you do not need to remove and reinsert paper to print on the other side. This is effective to not just reduce costs, but save on time, energy and efficiency.

Though when it comes to scanning and making copies, in all the printers under 100 that we have tested, rather, some more mid range models as well, this has one of the fastest copies. It makes a copy and prints it all out in under 28 seconds.

The high resolution scanning of 600 dpi is also very good. It uses high quality dye and pigment in its printing process, resulting in deeper and vibrant hues with the pigment bringing in sharpness in the image quality. Using a high quality paper will give you even better results.

When using duplexing, the prints came out slightly lighter. Though the sharpness didn’t change. It also printed very high quality, sharp and clear images and graphics which were nearly on point with the actual images.

The scanned images are also equally impressive with everything from background and depth to be nuanced. The copies though suffer from being slightly shadowy and sometimes grainy.

It has both high yield cartridges which bring the cost to somewhere around 21 cents for coloured and 10.8 cents for back and white. The setup and installation is fairly simple, the software is easily available on the companies website for one to download it from.

The wireless connectivity, the wi-fi direct, the mobile printing all make it a very worthwhile device. It is the bang for your buck. The minor flaws can be easily ignored for the high quality and precision prints this delivers.   For home use, we doubt there would be anything else that you desire.

  • The high quality printing
  • The fastest scanner amongst peers
  • Duplex printing
  • No document feeder or photo tray

An entry level multipurpose printer that will meet the needs of occasional printing. The printer quality is great, way better than the rest even though it is slightly slower to print. This model may not be one of the best printers under 100$, but if you can shell out a little extra, then this is by far the best model in our list.

This is a robust and strongly built printer, which is powered by a lot of features. They have an automatic duplexing feature, which not only saves time, also comes with a tray of 35 sheets. The automatic document feeder is a plus when you have multiple pages to scan and copy. The duplexing is manual and not automatic. You need to turn and reinsert the paper to print on the other side.

This is an extremely lightweight printer at 13.6 pounds, it also is compact for the range of multi-function it is in. The setup of this is very easy and you can easily configure it by scanning the barcode with any mobile device. The function would then be controlled by either using the app or through the desktop.

You can connect it to your pc, your smartphone, it supports wi-fi direct, wi-fi and USB.

This is an outstanding print quality where the text is crisp, sharp and legible even at extremely small font sizes. The graphics too are near perfect with slight imperfections of occasional banding.

The photos though are the real deal. Crystal clear, vibrant and deep colours, detailing. Followed by HP’s Instant Ink it is a massive cost saver. • Slow printing as compared to others

10. Epson Expression Home XP-4100 Wireless Color Printer with Scanner and Copier

Epson Expression Home XP-4100 Wireless Color Printer with Scanner and Copier
  • Speed– 7 pages per minute
  • Volume– 800 sheets
  • Weight– 11.5 pounds
  • Warranty-1 year

This is probably the printer in our entire review which disappointed us the most. It wasn’t expected that an Epson printer would be below par. We still included it in our review of the best printers under 100$ because it is still an Epson offering.

It is an average home printer and scanner with copier, that does a decent job of printing photos but is poor at writing texts. The detailing is in depth, even though slight banding is observed, the black contrast is inadequate and accordingly need to be higher than they are.

The low black contrast results in bluish pictures, which just takes away from their quality. The text printing is average with decent prints in normal font sizes, while being slightly blurry in low fonts. If you need to use professional, business documents or documents which need colour accuracy, this is not for you.

The printing speed is quite okay to say so for a lack of a better word. The first page doesn’t take all that long to print, but still the printouts come slow and is a paltry 6.3 to 7 pages per minute. The input tray has a smaller capacity and can hold only upto 100 sheets.

The redemption comes from the use of multiple colour cartridges which means you can only replace the ones you need. The yield is slightly on the lower side, so for a sporadic printer, it might be not that important as the cartridges are fairly reasonably priced.

The scanner is functional. It is a sheetfed scanner, so you need to scan one page at a time. The scan resolution and scan depth are greater than most brands that we know. Even though it has a display screen, it is not a touch screen and you need to use the buttons to navigate the functions. The responsive screen is visible from all angles that you want to see it with.

The body of this printer is made from hard quality plastic even though the tray is delicate. It is lightweight and compact to use. Overall it is an average product. One should buy it only if they have a brand fascination.

  • Low cost of cartridge
  • Sturdy built, is robust and will last long.
  • Compactly built
  • Speed and quality of printing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Best Printers under 100

1. Which is the correct printer for you?

The answer to this question will come from your usage. You have to define how you are going to be using this machine.

Home printers- if you are too print low volume, infrequent prints, which could range from black and white texts, to coloured for school or personal use, then you should select one accordingly. Though inkjet for home use are common, laserjet have a lot of cost saving benefits.

Creative printing or photo printing- You can select the pocket or portable photo printers. They are versatile and can print to-do lists, photos, quotes and quick assignments, while being lightweight enough to carry around.

Small business use- if you think you need only text printing, a monochrome printer might suffice well. If you need text and graphic, you may invest in a colour laserjet printer which can handle high volume.

You also need to decide if you just need a printer or a multifunction which can print, scan, copy and fax.

2. How to calculate the real cost of a printer?

Budget or affordable printers might tempt you, but consider the ancillary and long run costs before making a purchase. It is important to find out the cost per page of your printer. Which comes by taking in account the cost of the printer, the cost of replacement cartridge, the yield of the cartridge.

You have to define how much of prints you might be making and then calculate the cost accordingly and make a purchase.

3. Is it better to buy an inkjet as compared to a laserjet?

Inkjet printers are still being made for a very good reason. They use real ink as compared to laserjets powdered ink. This means that the print quality of an inkjet printer will always be far superior than that of a laserjet. The photos, the graphics will always look sharper. Also, most laserjet printers as compact as they claim to be are bulkier than inkjet models.

4. Will high-yield cartridges help reduce costs?

The answer to this is an emphatic yes. If you are a frequent printer and you print fairly more than a few pages, then investing in a high yield toner will work out to be more cost efficient for you. High yield cartridges have more ink in them, therefore print more and give more return.

Making a purchase from our  given list of the best printers under 100 is going to keep you well informed of what to expect from your printer. These printers are generally low duty cycle printers and can not handle heavy printing needs.

If you need to use it infrequently and in low volumes, it would be better you go in for a printer with higher print quality than speed. If you are going to use it frequently, then you should prefer one with more speed. The choice should be yours and should be an informed choice.
